After months of planning and development, Season One of the VRA SportsCar Championship is nearly ready to begin.
The championship will officially take to the track for the first time with The VRA Shakedown, a preseason testing event scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 1:00 PM GMT. The test will give registered competitors their first opportunity to share the track, prepare for the opening round, and experience the procedures that will be used throughout the season.
It will also allow VRA officials to evaluate race-control systems, class balance, server settings, communications, and overall event organization before championship points are on the line.
A Complete Sports-Car Racing Experience
The VRA SportsCar Championship was created to deliver an organized and realistic club-level sports-car racing experience on the iRacing platform. Inspired by the structure of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Season One will feature four familiar classes:
- GTP
- LMP2
- GTD Pro
- GTD
The multiclass format will bring together prototypes and production-based GT cars, creating different strategies, closing speeds, and battles throughout the field.
Season One will consist of a 10-round schedule featuring a combination of sprint and endurance events at several of North America’s most recognizable road-racing circuits. In addition to the main championship, competitors will have opportunities to compete for honors in the Sprint Cup and Endurance Cup.
This format is intended to reward more than outright speed. Consistency, preparation, racecraft, traffic management, and the ability to perform across different event lengths will all play important roles in determining the Season One champions.
Preparations Are Nearly Complete
The major systems required to operate the championship are now in place. VRA has completed the primary Season One schedule, Sporting Regulations, race procedures, registration process, Discord structure, results system, championship standings, and official website.
The VRA website will serve as the central source for championship information throughout the season. Competitors and fans will be able to find schedules, regulations, event details, results, standings, news articles, media, registration information, and future announcements in one location.
Additional features, statistics, photographs, broadcasts, and competitor information will continue to be added as the championship develops.
Registration and Promotion Are Underway
With the foundation of Season One established, VRA is beginning its full-scale promotional and recruitment campaign.
Registration is now open to drivers interested in joining the inaugural VRA SportsCar Championship field. VRA is also continuing to recruit volunteers for league operations, race control and stewarding, broadcasting and commentary, media production, and Balance of Performance data analysis.
The goal is to build a reliable group of competitors and staff members who share VRA’s vision of fair, organized, and respectful club-level competition.
Prospective competitors are encouraged to register early, review the championship regulations, join the VRA Discord, and begin preparing for the preseason test. Additional information regarding server access, event procedures, session schedules, and competitor requirements will be announced before October 3.
The Beginning of VRA Competition
The opening of Season One represents an important milestone for the Virtual Racing Association. What began as an idea for a realistic amateur and semi-professional racing league is now preparing to become an active championship.
The VRA Shakedown will mark the first major test of that vision and the beginning of a new community built around organized multiclass competition.
