The Virtual Racing Association is introducing the VRA SportsCar Championship, its premier iRacing series for amateur and semi-professional sim racers.
Inspired by the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the series will bring the challenges of North American sports-car racing to a club-level environment. Its multiclass racing, class structure, circuits, and sporting regulations will reflect real-world competition while being adapted to the simulator and the drivers taking part.
Three Car Categories, Four Classes
The championship will feature GTP and LMP2 prototypes alongside GT3 machinery, replicating the four-class structure used in IMSA competition:
- GTP
- LMP2
- GTD Pro
- GTD
These divisions create separate championship battles across distinct car categories while preserving the challenges of multiclass racing. Drivers will need to balance outright pace with traffic management, consistency, and cooperation between classes.
GTP, LMP2, and GT3 machinery will form the championship's class structure, allowing the series to mirror the modern IMSA field while refining its competition format over future seasons.
Sprint and Endurance Competition
Season 1 will combine shorter sprint races with longer endurance events, challenging drivers to succeed across different race formats.
Sprint events will place an emphasis on qualifying, racecraft, and making the most of every opportunity. Endurance rounds will add greater demands on strategy, concentration, and managing the car through changing race conditions.
Alongside the overall class championship battles, separate Sprint Cup and Endurance Cup titles will give competitors additional honors to pursue throughout the season.
Structured Racing, Club-Level Accessibility
The VRA SportsCar Championship is built around clear sporting regulations, organized event procedures, and consistent race management.
Realism will guide the series, but fairness and accessibility will remain central to its approach. Competitors will be expected to race responsibly, respect other drivers, and follow the VRA Sporting Code both on and off the circuit.
All events will run on iRacing. Drivers must have an active subscription and the required cars and tracks for the rounds they enter.
The inaugural season marks the beginning of VRA's sports-car competition, bringing together drivers who want a structured championship and competitive racing within a respectful community.
